This blog post explains exactly how the government schedules your SSI payment deposits and how you can always figure out the date on which your deposit should arrive.

When Does Social Security Deposit SSI Benefit Payments?
The government’s disability programs are paid on different schedules. In this article, we’ll focus on Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits payments.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments are scheduled to arrive in your bank account if you have direct deposit on the 1st day of each month. BUT, sometimes, the first day of the month falls on a weekend or a holiday when the banks are closed.
If the 1st day of the month falls on a weekend or a bank holiday, the government pays SSI benefits on the last day the banks are open before the weekend or holiday. The government wants the checks to payments to be processed immediately and the money to be available to the benefits recipient.
To illustrate how this works, let’s look at an example:
- In June 2023, the Social Security Administration deposited SSI payments on June 1, the first day of the month, as usual. But July 1 fell on a weekend (Saturday). Since July 1 was on a weekend, the government deposited the July SSI benefit payment into recipients’ accounts on June 30, the Friday before July 1 Saturday. Therefore, 2 SSI benefit payments were received in June and none arrived in July. The July payment arrived on June 30.
August 1, 2023, Is SSI Deposit Arrival Date
August 1, 2023 falls on a Tuesday. That means your SSI benefit payment for August should arrive right on schedule.
September 1, 2023, is SSI Deposit Arrival Date
September 1, 2023, is a Friday and the SSI benefit payments should be deposited on schedule.
You will also receive your October SSI benefit payment on September 29 which is the last weekday before the first day in October. October 1, 2023, falls on a Sunday and the Social Security Administration will deposit your October benefit payment before the weekend. Since you will receive two SSI benefit deposits in September, you will not receive another one until November 1, 2023.
What Could Delay Your SSI Benefit Payment’s Arrival?
If you are speaking with someone who receives disability payments from a program other than SSI, you should remember that they will receive their payments on a different schedule.
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits recipients get their benefits deposited on a schedule that is based on their date of birth. For example, those SSDI recipients whose birthdate is between the 1st and the 10th of the month receive their benefits on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. Those whose birthday is between the 11th and the 20th of the month receive their benefits on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. And people with birthdays on dates from the 21st to the 31st get their benefits deposited on the 4th Wednesday of the month.
Delays in payments are possible when extraordinary circumstances occur, but delays usually result when the recipient’s information has changed but they did not notify the Social Security Administration.
Another reason a benefit payment may not arrive is if the recipient received more countable income in the previous month which eliminated their eligibility for that one month.
Changes of address should always be reported to the Social Security Administration in advance of moving. Another way to avoid unnecessary delays is to set up direct deposit.
