Tampa Disability Compassionate Allowance Conditions

Published on: January 21, 2016

tampa_bayshore.jpgAs we mentioned previously, there are special circumstances which allow for expedited processing of new claims. One of those is what the SSA calls “compassionate allowances,” or CAL. To recap:

  • Certain cases that usually qualify for disability can be allowed as soon as the diagnosis is confirmed. Examples include acute leukemia, Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS) and pancreatic cancer.

Please do not hesitate to contact Disability Experts of Florida for any questions you have regarding SSD and compassionate allowances. We understand how to expedite your case to get you your benefits as quickly as possible. This includes helping you determine whether you’re eligible, and whether your family is eligible.

Social Security Disability And
Compassionate Allowance: Applying

The Social Security Administration claims it has “an obligation to provide benefits quickly to applicants whose medical conditions are so serious that their conditions obviously meet disability standards.” Part of what we do here is work directly with the SSA to help get you the benefits you need quickly. There are unfortunate circumstances which demand an expedited process.

According to the SSA, Compassionate Allowances (CAL) are a way of quickly identifying diseases and other medical conditions that invariably qualify under the Listing of Impairments, based on minimal objective medical information. Compassionate Allowances allow Social Security to quickly target the most obviously disabled individuals for allowances based on objective medical information that we can obtain quickly. At Disability Experts of Florida, we have years of experience building bridges with the SSA in order to get you the help you need fast.

Arriving at CAL conditions is a result of information received at public outreach hearings, comments received from the Social Security and Disability Determination Service communities, counsel of medical and scientific experts, and the SSA’s research with the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The SSA also considers which conditions are most likely to meet its current definition of disability. Let Disability Experts of Florida work your case for you. We understand how to position cases so that the SSA understands the seriousness of your claim; it could be the most important decision of your life.

Applying For SSD And CAL: Some Additional Information

According to the SSA website, “Commissioner Astrue of the SSA has held seven Compassionate Allowances public outreach hearings. The hearings were on rare diseases, cancers, traumatic brain injury (TBI) and stroke, early-onset Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, schizophrenia, cardiovascular disease and multiple organ transplants and autoimmune diseases.“

“On October 13, 2011, Commissioner Astrue announced 13 new conditions to the Compassionate Allowances list, taking the list of conditions to 113. These conditions involve neurological, mental, and immune system disorders. The 13 conditions are effective on December 10, 2011.”
